Me and my other half went to see Emmy The Great last week in Amsterdam. She performed in a lovely little venue called De Roode Bioscoop and she was amazing. Her one-woman set was simple and relaxed, and beautiful and heartfelt at the same time.
We had her album Second Love playing most of the weekend. It’s a wonderful album. Have a listen! She started off her set with a Chinese version of ‘Constantly’, the melody of which has been stuck in my head ever since the gig. I thought I’d add both the English and Chinese versions.
Have a wonderful week!
Much can be said about 2016; many icons left us, the world is an absolute mess and I was terrible at posting, well, anything.
But some good things also happened. I saw some wonderful live music, met some of my musical heroes and discovered some fantastic new bands.
One of those new bands that I have a feeling may well blow up more than I would like to is The Vryll Society. There is a touch of the Roses and the Charlatans about them at times and I love every song I have heard by them! Their songs just worm their way into my heart. Fingers crossed I will get to see them in 2017!
This is their latest and it’s a mighty fine tune!
Hippo Campus’ debut album Landmark will be out in February on Transgressive Records. For some reason the actual title of the song is ‘boyish’ and the album landmark, but I hate it when titles are all lower case, so I am being rebellious.
I like this song and I will definitely have a listen to their album when it’s out.
I keep hearing this on the wireless and every time I hear it the song buries into my brain a little deeper. Love it!
Well, what better song to share today that one by a band that has become one of my favourite bands in the last year or so and that has a video in which a cartoon Trump is being hit by a cartoon car!
Let’s hope the next car crash won’t be Trump becoming the next US president. That… would… not… be… good…
It’s from their latest album Helter Seltzer, which was released in the spring and one of my top albums of 2016.
Well, there is a bit of Ash for every occasion. In my world anyway. Yesterday saw the much anticipated release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So I wanted a Star Wars related song.
Well, this will do 🙂
This is one of the most beautiful love songs I know. I could not tell you what it is about it, but it gets me every time. It makes me stop what I am doing and listen. It gives me that tingly feeling. I just simply love the words and the melody. It does something magic.
